How to help the Vigyan Ashram blog

First of all, a big thank you to all our readers!

We at Vigyan Ashram take great efforts to keep all our stakeholders informed of the goings-on in the organization. This blog is just another step in that direction. We invest serious time in the blog, trying to keep it updated in parallel with our normal work hours. Given our limited time, we will look to prioritize content over marketing.

EWB: Bamboo project roundup (Up to December 2009)

Conference calls were held with a team from the University of Strathclyde on 25 November and 17 December, 2009. The team is working on “Bamboo as a structural component”, as part of the Engineers Without Borders (EWB) -Vigyan Ashram programme. The project is guided by Carmen Torres-Sanchez (University of Strathclyde), Rohan Choukkar (Vigyan Ashram) and Lara Lewington (EWB). Team members: Gavin Leake, Kyle Toole, Pavel Divis. The objective is to explore and design new joints to fabricate better bamboo-based structures.

A preliminary report and a presentation were prepared by the Strathclyde team. These were forwarded to Mr Ashok Mathur for his feedback, and the same was relayed to the EWB team. Next update after the Christmas break.

AFP Update

December 29, 2009

Cabbage trials under way.

A Skype call was held with Paul Osterlund of the AFP on 18th December, 2009. Outcome: 30 pounds of Zeba to be shipped to Vigyan Ashram for further trials in the dry season. Shipment is expected around mid-January.

CoEP-Vigyan Ashram MoU

December 29, 2009

A Memorandum of Understanding between Vigyan Ashram and the College of Engineering, Pune (CoEP) was signed on 6th December, 2009. The agreement covered the terms governing Vigyan Ashram’s use of CoEP’s FabLab, and of future collaboration between the two parties.
